Herr Backyard Garden Center in Burien

We do our grocery shopping across the street from this place, and today we finally went in. We got some groundcover.

Note to my friend Barb: I'm not sure if you're still reading this blog, or if you're still looking for a cement Buddha head for your garden. But FYI, this one cost $197.

  1. I found your blog via electrolicious.com. How fun! I'm also a mid-Beacon Hiller, and I would love to hear more about what your know about the 'hood and your experiences here.

Love your photos, BTW. They're great.

  2. Thank you! It was sweet of Ariel to link to my blog post with those Salon of Shame pictures. Next time I'll have to take notes so I can get all the captions right.

We've lived here on MBH for two years now. Is there anything in particular you want to know?

Since I'm taking Friday off, I was thinking that this Thursday I would work on a Beacon Hill drinking post, wherein I would have a drink at every Beacon Hill establishment that serves alcohol. I think that's only three places: Baja Bistro, that other Mexican place up there (La Hacienda? Not El Quetzal, because they don't serve alcohol), and the Beacon Hill Pub.

Does Kusina Filipina serve alcohol? And does that Vietnamese place by the golf pro shop on the southeast corner of Beacon and Columbian serve alcohol? I'll need to investigate.

I also want to take pictures of the new Chief Sealth trail, which looks great.

I've been focusing more on Georgetown, but I wrote about the MBH Comet Lodge Cemetery a few weeks ago:

    Thanks for coming by!

  3. I really like your pub crawl idea! I'm pretty sure that Kusina FIlipina doesn't serve alcohol, nor does the Fou-Lee market (NW corner of Beacon/Columbian). Does the pro shop? Might be worth investigating. Did you know, though, that the barber shop on the SE corner of Beacon/Columbian (in the shops behind the dry cleaners/espresso) has a full bar? Seriously! My neighbor gets his hair cut there, and it's supposed to be a good time getting your hair cut there! I really wish El Quetzal would get an alcohol license. *sigh* That would be perfect.

Anyway, I really believe the light rail is going to put Beacon Hill on the map, so to speak. I hope so. I love this 'hood.

I guess the only thing I'd like to know more about is some of the planning activities you're involved in. You mentioned in some of your other posts about being on the planning commission mailing lists and going to meetings about development projects in G'town. Doing those sorts of things is something I've been thinking about for a while and really need to act on. The only thing I'm doing now is participating on a Beacon Ave. trash pick-up crew once every other month. It's not much, but at least it's something, right?

Anyway, sorry for the long comment. Again, I enjoy your blog and look forward to the next post.
