Upcoming South End Events

Sorry about the lack of activity here this week -- we've been moving things (including my computer) around in the house. Things should be all settled this weekend, though.

Anyway, here are a few upcoming Beacon Hill and Georgetown events. I'll get these all added to the top of the right column soon.

Saturday, May 3, 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. -- El Centro de la Raza's Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Jefferson Community Center.

Saturday, May 10, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. -- Georgetown Art Attack (the monthly art walk). I think they have their own website, but I can't find it right now.

Wednesday, May 14, 6:30 p.m. -- Sustainable South Seattle meeting at Beacon Hill Library.

Monday, May 19, 7:00 p.m. -- A presentation about the history of Georgetown by the Friends of Georgetown History (I think) at the Georgetown Community Council meeting at Coliman Restaurant.

CORRECTED DATE AND TIME: Saturday, May 24, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. -- A historic walking tour of Georgetown sponsored by the Friends of Georgetown History and WJE Architects. Meet at Georgetown City Hall.

Saturday, June 7, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. -- Georgetown Art Attack.

Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14 -- Georgetown Music Fest. Here's one of the handful of photos I took at last year's event:

  1. No, that's not all! The Beacon Hill Festival is Saturday, June 7 at Jefferson Community Center. We had a blast last year.

  2. Help make Seattle the Most Walkable City in the Nation! Mark your calendar May 10th!

Saturday May 10 is Seattle Walks Day. At 10 a.m. hundreds of Seattle residents will get together with neighbors, friends and families to walk their favorite routes in your community! Sustainable South Seattle is hosting two walks.

    A. The Bike Works Kid Bide Swap Walk
Walk with us from MLK through Columbia City to the Bike works kid bike swap at Genesee park. See one of Columbia City's coolest non-profit in action. Meet at MLK and Alaska at 10 AM. The co-founder of SSS Richard Wilson is leading this walk. For questions email richardom1@aol.com.

    B. Mona Lee's Favorite South Seattle Walk
The second walk starts at 48th & Othello (meet there at 10 AM) and then goes north to Myrtle Street, left/west on Myrtle through the light rail station plaza, then through King Plaza to John C Little Park up through the park to Holly Park Drive. Take an immediate left up through the community garden to the Chief Sealth Trail. Go up the Chief Sealth Trail to the crest of the hill beside New Holly. Climb the first knoll to the right of the trail. Go up to the top of the knoll. There you will find a magnificent view of the Othello town Center, Lake Washington, the Cascade Mountains and the Olympic Mountains. This could include a tour of King Plaza with all it marvelous diversity: Tammy's Bakery, the Chilnese herb store, several Asian restaurants, etc. Mona Lee (of Old Woman on a Bike fame) will lead this walk. For questions email , mona_lee@comcast.net

Clothes for rain or shine. Appropriate walking shoes. Kids welcome.

Everyone is welcome. Pass it on!

    Thanks.

  3. From the folks at Georgetown Brewing: "May 14: Bob's Brown Ale in retail at the brewery
We'll have Bob's here at the brewery in growler-only version, limit
two (2) growlers per customer, and we've raised the price to $12
instead of the normal $6. Feel good about it, all the money goes to
charity. If last year is any indication, supply around here won't
last much more than a day."
